Saving Our Planet – One Plastic Bottle At a Time

California-based nature photographer Justin Hofman took this picture of a seahorse wrapped around a Q-tip in the waters off of Indonesia. He says this is a photo of something the he wished “didn’t exist”, but sadly, this exists in all of our oceans.

According to plasticoceans.org we produce nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year, and 8 million tons of that plastic is dumped into our oceans. The nature of the ocean currents means we all share every Q-tip and plastic bottle tossed into the sea. At Bolyu, we are doing what we can to minimize the amount of plastic haphazardly discarded by using recycled PET in many of our products.

Most of this plastic – PET – is highly recyclable. In fact, the PET Resin Association says that one pound of recycled PET can make 21 20oz plastic bottles!

All Bolyu Nexterra backed carpet tiles contain a minimum of 40% post-consumer. The average recycled content for carpet tile is 49% post-consumer and 9% pre-consumer.

Several of our broadloom styles are available with Avalar RE fiber, which contains 25% pre-consumer content.

In 2016, our carpet tile manufacturing process diverted the equivalent of 78 million PET plastic bottles away from landfills and oceans and into our carpet tiles.

Bolyu is committed to making that number even higher, and doing more to reduce the amount of plastic in our landfills and oceans, and put more of it under your feet.
